Tomorrow's Choice: Election Day 2006
We face a very difficult choice at a very difficult time in our nation's history. We're faced with two political parties that don't seem to even attempt to serve our national interest with very little exception. Both parties pander for votes and make empty promises, and very few politicians bother to try to deliver. The few that do are the obvious exceptions to the rule. We're lucky to have those folks representing us.
So where does that leave us? Despite the cries of the media to paint it otherwise, the most crucial issue facing us is not Mark Foley, Jack Abramoff or any other of the litany of scandals plaguing the Republican party. It is the global war against radical Islam. It is the fight for freedom here at home and around the world. It is the fight to save western civilization from the dustbin of history.
Democrats are weak on national security and have been since the left began to take over the party during the Vietnam War. Their policy of cut and run, most forcefully delivered by Jack Murtha, is one that would leave America vulnerable to blackmail and the gathering storm we're facing. Simply put, to trust the Democrat party with the levers of power during this dangerous time in American history would be a disaster of epic proportions. We should not believe those on the left who say that if we just leave Iraq and bring our troops home the terrorists would leave us alone. No, they would not. They seek to destroy us for a variety of reasons but Iraq only popped up on the list in 2003. They've been waging an unanswered war against America since at least 1983 when they attacked our Marine barracks in Beirut. They will always find a reason to want to destroy us until we're wiped from the face of the earth, or forced to submit to Islam and allow a global Caliphate to take over the world. This is not an acceptable choice.
Republicans have given us almost nothing to cheer about since taking control of both houses of Congress in 2002. They have allowed themselves to be bullied at every front by a vocal minority and at almost every front they have backed down. With the exception of the tax cuts and the two superlative Supreme Court justices delivered by President Bush, what exactly has the Republican party done for us lately? The size of the federal government is ballooning out of control under the so-called party of limited government. We have nowhere to turn.
However, Republicans (for the most part) understand what's at stake in this war on radical Islam. And the stone-cold reality is that if we do not win this war, we will have nothing to argue about regarding tax cuts, abortion or any other social issue facing us today. We MUST win this war and we must send back to power the party that understands what we're up against. We must not allow the Democrat party to regain control of the Congress. We must (gulp) send the Republican party back to Congress as a functional governing majority.
So, get out and vote.
