Really, Congressman?
At a pro-illegal immigration rally on Sunday, Representative Luis Grijalva said the following about Arizona's new law to uphold US immigration policy: "We're going to overturn this unjust and racist law, and then we're going to overturn the power structure that created this unjust, racist law."
Let's start with the law itself, namely what it is versus what people like Grijalva say it is. The law commands Arizona law enforcement to uphold Federal immigration law within the borders of the state of Arizona. That's all. It's not a racial profiling law. It's not a law that commands the violation of civil rights; in fact it specifically bans the practice of any unlawful forms of profiling.
Grijalva would have you believe the Arizona state government will be setting up internment camps for Mexicans. He's a liar.
As if that isn't bad enough to pit American against each other along racial lines, Grijalva said that more is necessary than just overturning the law. He calls for the overturning of the state's constitutional order. That's the "power structure" he's talking about. A sitting member of the US House of Representatives is advocating insurrection against the sovereign state government of Arizona. Is this behavior we're willing to tolerate from an American congressman?
Do you really believe, Congressman, that the constitutional order needs to be overturned?
